BEAUFORT
Beaufort is a village located south of Maubeuge on the way to Avesnes sur Helpe. I have lived there since 1972 in the house of my mother and my grandparents.
Beaufort is an interesting place with a lot of history. In the village, you can still see the remains of a tower or keep. The tower was built by Baudouin V, Count of Hainaut in 1173 to protect the village from the lords of Avesnes. In the 19th century, the tower served as a quarry for the maintenance of the RN2. The village was also strongly marked by the American parade of April 1945.
There are several different walking paths (3km to 7km) that take you through the village and the beautiful surrounding countryside.

I wish you all a Happy New Year 2021 !
