HOLIDAYS IN PLAYA DEL INGLES, GRAN CANARIA in March 2015

Brigitte DEVOS, YL. Lundi 9h/10h30

Gran Canaria is a volcanic island ; the climate is said to be a subtropical climate, due to its mild temperature. In fact, we had between 25°C and 28°C in the afternoon ! It was very appreciable and the first reason to choose this destination four hours by plane from our house.

We were at PLAYA DEL INGLES in the south of the island at the « Eugenia Victoria » all inclusive. From our balcony we could see swimming pools, bars and a lot of palmtrees and vegetation and from the corridor of the fourth floor the ocean.

ACTIVITIES

We often went for a walk ; there was an attractive pedestrian promenade with tropical flowers and luxurious villas and hotels. We went also for a walk the foot to the sea on the beach.
The Dunas of Maspalomas look like the Sahara and are 25 Km2 with a lot of sand hills making an interesting walk. The sand is mixed, some of it comes from the Sahara, so this is authentic. Every day, people take a walk in the Dunas from early in the  morning and  come back before dark.

We took the local bus to see the old lighthouse of Maspalomas (65 meters high). We saw a botanical park with different varieties of palmtrees and beautiful plants.  I was happy to come back to our hotel ; I spoke english with the driver to be sure of the destination and it was a good experience !

Another day, we took another local bus to go to Puerto Mogan (forty minutes by bus). It is a picturesque fishing village with a lot of bougainvillers and hibiscus flowers and cactus. It is called « little Venise » ; the canal connects the harbour to the marina.
If I had not sppken a little english, we would have taken a taxi or stayed at Playa Del Ingles but it was a good experience to take these local buses !

Another day, we did a trip round the island. We were four small buses (eight people per  edbus) with a guide who explained the life and vegetation of this island. It was in the moutains, It was very interesting! In the centtr of the island you have the « Pic de Las Nieves » at 1949 m. From it, you can see a superb view : to the North : Las Palmas (a big port), to the West : San Nicolas de Tplentino with the agriculture ant to the South : the Nature Reserve of Dunas of Maspalomas with its lighthouse.
